I hope y'all and your family enjoyed the Feb recess. On Fri, February 25, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated guidance that removes their recommendation for a universal masking in schools and on school buses. Furthermore, the CDC identified a new metric system that evaluates cases within a community using low-medium-high ratings. Currently, Livingston County is at a medium level which allows for choice equally to wearing masks in schools and on our buses.

Yesterday, Governor Hochul held a press briefing and informed New Yorkers that the pupil mask mandate (for busing besides) volition be lifted on Wednesday, March two, 2022. Governor Hochul cited numerous metrics and data sources for her decision to remove the mask mandate including, but not limited to, vaccination rates, hospitalizations, positive cases, deaths, global information and trends, and the contempo changes to CDC guidance. Therefore, students and staff will remain masked on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, students and staff volition exercise their personal choice to be masked or unmasked.

The District will respect personal pick and back up all students and staff in feeling condom and ready to learn. Nosotros recognize that students and staff members who choose to mask may do so for many reasons, including merely non limited to:

● Complying with their parents' directions

● Living with vulnerable household members

● Respect for others and trying to keep others prophylactic

Again, information technology is important to the Commune that anybody feels comfortable in doing what's best for themselves and their families. If your child experiences challenges or peer harassment for wearing a mask, delight notify your child'south teacher, schoolhouse advisor or principal.

Equally a reminder, Governor Hochul encouraged all students to be tested before returning from the February recess and/or during the week they return. If yous need additional home test kits, please do non hesitate to contact the main offices. Employees and students with health vulnerabilities or who live with household members with health vulnerabilities are encouraged to continue wearing a KN95 or other well-plumbing fixtures mask. Earlier this week, Governor Hochul announced plans to re-assess the mask requirement in schools upon return from mid-winter pause based on case and positivity metrics.  Schools have been directed to distribute at-home test kits to families prior to the February break. This volition let students to be tested prior to returning to school on February 28.

This aligns with our previously planned test distribution. We will be making calm COVID-nineteen rapid antigen test kits available to every PreK-12 student, kinesthesia, and staff fellow member earlier break commences next calendar week. Please note that although testing is being made available to the York school customs, information technology is not a required process. If you choose to apply the tests, and receive a positive result, please email the wellness office at [email protected] .  Think to include the date of the positive exam and when symptoms started.  Remember that all isolation guidelines should be followed.  Negative test results do not need to be reported.

We believe providing the test kits may eternalize the mitigation strategies already in place thus maintaining an educational environs that is salubrious and safe which remains our top priority.

Livingston County Superintendents have written to both Gov. Kathy Hochul and the NYSDOH to advocate for the evolution of appropriate guidance for an go out strategy regarding all mitigation measures of COVID-19 and requested for local control to be fully restored to school districts to enable them to make decisions appropriate for individual communities, in consultation with local DOH.

The letters are signed by the Avon, Cal-Mum, Dansville, Geneseo, Keshequa, Livonia, Mount Morris, Way-Co and York Central School Districts.
